Lying in the east of the Mediterranean Sea is the idyllic holiday isle of Cyprus. The island is occupied in the north by Turkish Cypriots and the south by Greek Cypriots. Package holidays in Cyprus have for many years centred on the south but recent times has seen a rise in trips to the north.
In the southern part of the island visitors will be met with long sandy beaches, high-rise hotels and resorts as well as a good mix of local and other European restaurants and bars. Paphos, to the southwest, is home to an inviting harbourside of cafés and shops while in the southeast corner is Ayia Napa, which is geared towards a younger crowd.
If visitors are travelling with package holidays in Cyprus, they may land in one of two airports. Larnaca Airport in the south is the most popular for most tourists because of its central location in comparison to the main towns and Paphos Airport also caters for holidaymakers; although mainly those staying in the immediate area.
Package holidays in Cyprus on the northern side of the island are still growing in popularity and many towns abandoned during the 1974 invasion by Turkish forces have now opened up again to become popular holiday destinations for many travellers.
As well as the usual holiday draws Cyprus has to offer like sun, sand and sea; visitors can also enjoy the Troodos Mountains and marvel at the spectacular views from the summit. There are also many ancient Greek ruins and day trippers can go on an organised tour of these to soak up the history of the island.
